I have over twenty years experience in hospitality and events, for eleven of those I ran my own venue in West London fusing premier electronic artists and musicians with exhibitions, video installations and comedy nights, with a pretension-free atmosphere; the club become a focal point for artists and musicians and fans of contemporary culture.
I started the business from scratch, from plumbing in the toilets and working in the kitchen to building the brand and website, from sound and light engineering, marketing and bookkeeping to artist and promoter liaison, so I understand the varied roles and skills required to run a successful venue.
Since then, as a tour guide I helped build the no.1 rated small group tour company in London, whilst pursuing my passions for events, art, music, film and photography. Most recently I have produced music for a BAFTA Winning BBC documentary and co-produced a film about The Margate to Minneapolis March which featured in the Turner Contemporary. All these skills can be utilised to help promote the venue.
I have a keen interest in the arts, music, film, popular science, technology and would be excited about creating events that merge these disciplines. One of my favourite acts that I booked at my venue was Festival of the Spoken Nerd, who hilariously combine science and comedy. I’m interested in shows and performances which make science and technology accessible and entertaining.
Way back at college, I studied philosophy and religion and through my tour guiding work I have become more interested in humanities and have a passion for sharing information, especially history and culture. Having recently worked alongside People Dem Collective I’m keen to further explore and promote social change. I feel the vision of the venue and the role is a perfect match for me to utilse and pursue my varied skills and passions. Being part of the team from the ground up is hugely appealing.
